How to Share a Channel Group with Another User

Channel Groups are designed to be a by-user entity, simply because most workspaces won’t see every user in every channel. There may be times where two team members are in similar channels, and instead of creating two different groups twice, one user will take one batch and then want to share with the other user. These Channel Groups will not be synced or connected as time goes, so adding or removing channels later on will only affect the one making the change, and no one else.

Heads up!

This is an advanced feature and not recommended in most use cases.

For example, if you’re a sales rep that created a Channel Group to share communications with your prospects, and then your counterpart on the business development team wants to assist you, you might want to share your Channel Group.

In order for Channel Groups to be shared, both the sharing user and the receiving user must be a member of every channel within.

Follow the steps below to share a Channel Group:

  1. Navigate to the Threadly app in Slack.

  2. Under ⚙️ Preferences, click “Manage Channel Groups

  3. Next to the Channel Group you want to share, click the ellipsis to open the menu. Click Share.

  4. Choose the user to share your Channel Group with

  5. You’ll now see a list of channels along with a ✅ or ❌ next to the name. The receiving user is not a member of that channel and must be added in order for the share to occur.

  6. Once all of the channels are ✅ shared, click the Share button at the bottom.

  7. The receiving user will be notified by Threadly that a Channel Group was shared with them.
